Course Description(What is this course all about)
The Course will introduce you to the basic concepts of Indian Classical Music.Beginning with the Knowledge of Seven notes,moving on to the voice exercises like Sargam Singing or Paltas.The rules for correct voice throwing with the practice of Om and paltas will be dealt with which will enable the student to gain Swar knowledge and help them to mould their voice to move effortlessly in octaves.Once the student is confident with the basics he or she can move to Ragas or melodic modes…. Starting with the very basic ones as Bilawal,Bhopali,Bhairav,Yaman,Khamaj etc. exploring and singing different compositions in each of them.A basic idea of Rhythm cycles or talas used will also be introduced.

On successful completion of this module students should be able to identify,the main melodic and formal characteristics of Indian Classical Music.Sing Notes,Ragas and Compositions based on ragas and set to rhythm cycle.Gain a sound knowledge required to appreciate Indian Classical Music.
